Nationalism and the Curriculum

This project builds on my dissertation, which contrasts the power of different theoretical approaches from history, linguistics and education to explain which languages have been included in Swiss school curricula.

More broadly, it aims to conceptualise and empirically analyse the role of nationalism and different majority and minority identities in shaping what is taught in schools - and to offer advice to policy-makers and teachers on how to deal with multiple identities in the classroom. It has resulted in the academic publications below, as well as a series of materials for teachers of minority and migrant languages and a guide to good practice in the teaching of minority and migrant languages.
